You may ask yourself "how do I set myself apart from the others"? "What markets have opportunity"? "How do I generate more sales dollars"? Well, in Photographing Art for Profit, you'll have these questions and others about how to photograph for this market answered.

Photographing Art for Profit will teach you the skills necessary in how to properly capture art for reproduction. Here you will learn the importance of an art portfolio to an artist and how to photograph two dimensional and three dimensional art for galleries and museums. We'll talk about oil and watercolor paintings; sculpture; furniture; jewelry; pottery and blown glass. We'll show you studio setups and even discuss how to prepare shoots and prep the images for final delivery, and how the images will be used for exhibition catalogues once you're done with them. You'll learn the potential art has to offer photographers to become technically skilled in controlling exposure and color and learn what to expect from clients and what to expect of yourself, and suggestions on where to find opportunity to photograph and even how to market it.

Course Outline:

Lesson 1: Photographing Flat Art - Oil Paintings & Watercolors.
What to carry in your bag. Equipment choices and why. Preparing yourself and your client for the shoot. Setting up and shooting the art.

Lesson 2: Photographing 3-D Art - Blown Glass, Furniture, Jewelry, Pottery, Sculpture.
Learn studio lighting and setting up sweeps. Photographing refl ective art. Avoiding and enhancing glare. Creating tonal variations in your imagery.

Lesson 3: Other art and Considerations - Photographing with Copystands, Etchings, Works on Paper, Rescreens, Photographic Markets, Legal considerations.
Learning the benefi t of copystands. How to maintain tonal value of paper. Who to photograph for and how to fi nd them. Legal considerations.

Lesson 4: Processing. Preparing your images for delivery and bringing it all together.
Image submission guidelines. Creating a workfl ow. Keywording and metadata. Processing your fi les. Printing the work.

Course Requirement:
Intermediate to Advanced skills. A digital slr and solid understanding of exposure. A tripod, light meter, macro or fl at fi eld lens, strobes or hot lights, gray card, polarizing fi lters, computer. Suggested but not required: Paper backgrounds, soft boxes, umbrellas, Gretag Macbeth 24 patch color checker chart.

Aaron ConstantAaron Constant is a commercial photographer, off set lithographer and digital printmaker. He has been photographing and producing art catalogues and photographic / illustrated books for almost 20 years. He is additionally co-founder and partner of Evoco LLC, a digital printmaking studio specializing in archival print reproductions for artists and galleries. www.evocoprint.com

Aaron is known for his experience in capture to print output as well as his near continuous tone duotone, tritone and quadtone photographic print reproductions on press. He edits and color manages cmyk fi les of important works of art for art galleries and museums nationally and advises and collaborates with artists and photographers in reproducing their original works of art.

Not only is his art capture and photo editing featured in many exhibition catalogues, Aaron additionally maintains a client list of regional and national magazines and freelance commercial assignments. His passion for the printed image drives his personal work to produce story telling imagery suited for print and short run books.
